Weslaco officials clarify information on city orders

WESLACO, Texas – With new travel restrictions in place, the Weslaco Police Department is clearing up some information on the orders.

Officials say the city is making changes as health officials learn more about COVID-19.

Weslaco Police Chief Joel Rivera says residents who test positive are being ordered to shelter at home.

The same is in place for residents who have tested and are waiting for their results.

The biggest thing the police want people to know is that the whole family should not be out during this pandemic.

“One of the things we are finding is people are going out and they are taking their spouse and their kid with them. That is fine, you can take either or you can take your spouse or you can take your kid, but you can’t take all three,” said Chief Rivera. “Now we’re increasing the exposure and the potential people that are being exposed.”

Weslaco residents who tested positive for COVID-19 are required to call the Weslaco Emergency Operations at (956) 973-4001.

They will have to notify health officials of their name, age, and gender.
