The National Tropical Weather Conference is underway.
This year’s forecast includes 11 named storms, 4 hurricanes, and 2 major hurricanes. The conference aims to unite broadcasters and weather experts for the opportunity to share the latest in hurricane preparedness.
The two-day conference covers forecasting, research, and tropical meteorology.
Research Scientist Phil Klotzbach says, “the key thing with all of our seasonal forecasts is that it’s an informational tool. People are curious. They want to know how active the season is going to be. But we can’t say where the storms are going to go… it only takes that one storm to be an active season for you. So pretty much, regardless of the seasonal forecast, you have to be prepared every year.”
USAA P&C Property Underwriting Director Rob Galbraith says, “There may not be an outlook for hurricanes this year as we just heard, it really only takes one storm. Now is the time to prepare. Not when the coat of uncertainty is putting your home in danger.”
This year also marks the 50th anniversary of Hurricane Beulah.
A hurricane that deeply affected this region…leaving behind flooding, deaths, and severe property damage.
