“Walking” a virtual stage, students brace for online commencement this 2020

BROWNSVILLE, TX

A time-honored tradition on the verge of disappearing thanks to the COVID-19 pandemic.

As students transition away from the classroom and into an online setting, some worry they may not be able to walk the stage for graduation.

The University of Texas at Austin is one of the major institutions in the state to commit to a virtual commencement ceremony. Now RGV schools, colleges, and university considering all options for their upcoming ceremonies.

We reached out to valley seniors on what they think about “walking” a virtual stage.

Local schools say they have not finalized their plans and will consider an alternative depending on how the Novel Coronavirus develops.
