RIO GRANDE VALLEY, Texas – COVID-19 may have stopped students from attending class but it hasn’t stopped them from making music and the same goes for their teachers.

“To support all the people on the front lines what they’re doing right now.” said assistant band director Isai Reyes.

It’s a creative thank you from band teachers at Veterans Memorial High School.

“Anybody that’s working at the grocery store, at the hospitals, the front lines right now helping anyone in need.” said Reyes.

Isai Reyes and his colleagues played a “Song For Health” by Steven Verhelst to spark creativity for students who are not able to attend band class.

“The kids kind of need that the connection between teacher and student thing kind of going on.” said band director Guillermo De La Cruz.

He tells Local 23 the goal of the video is to bring joy during uncertain times.

“People sit outside their balconies around the world and they’re laughing, dancing, playing music together, well this is our rendition of that.” he said.

The school is planning a video concert with students in the next few months.
