Veteran celebrates his citizenship

MCALLEN, Texas – A celebration in the city of McAllen for a veteran who became a U.S. Cititzen. Family and friends joined Francisco Belmarez at the Las Palmas Community Center. Several veteran groups and civil rights organizations also joining Mr. Belmarez to celebrate his citizenship.

Mario Ybarra, Veterans’ Advocate, “it’s been a long journey if not a year and a half if not more. It didn’t come without any obstacles and we’re hoping, with regards to Mr. Belmarez’s success story, that it will offer hope to other veterans who are in similar situations.”

Ybarra adding veterans in similar situations can achieve their citizenship, but it requires patience and a little bit of homework.
