A simple Christmas wish by an Edinburg CISD elementary student is going viral.

A teacher at Monte Cristo Elementary posted that she was heartbroken after reading one of her student’s letter to Santa Claus.

First grader Crystal Pacheco wrote that all she wanted for Christmas was food for her family and a warm blanket. School leaders at Edinburg CISD have been hearing from people across the world who were inspired by Crystal’s Christmas wish.

The letter put into action a blanket collection drive for students throughout the district. Edinburg CISD has collected hundreds of blankets.

The blankets are going to students at Monte Cristo Elementary. There are 724 students currently enrolled in Pre-k through fifth grade. Each will take a blanket home plus any extra to siblings that are not of school age.

Currently more than 900 blankets have been collected. Crystal will be on hand as they are distributed at a special ceremony at Monte Cristo Elementary on Wednesday, December 20.
