EDINBURG, Texas – Edinburg CISD is taking initiative regarding mental health among students.
The district is teaching parents how to help their teenagers. Parents can help their children at home who may be facing mental health challenges like bullying, depression, or anxiety and is preventing them from focusing in school. Nearly 3,000 school professionals are also receiving training.
Ileana Herrera, Edinburg CISD Counselor, “You are able to see when there’s a sign or a symptom of something that may be potentially going wrong with the mental health of students, specifically ages 12 through 18. At the same time you’re able learn the language on what to say, how to respond adequately, who to call, how can I prevent a crisis? Overall that’s the goal.”
Since January 2019, over 125 parents have been certified.
