Valley Fire Department Urges Residents To Have Smoke Detectors In Every Room

Local News

Fire officials in Alton are raising awareness on the importance of smoke detectors. It follows the fire that killed three people Sunday morning July 22.

Fire officials are urging residents to have a smoke detector outside of every room in their home, including the living room. It increases the chances of survival in case of a fire. They also urge the community to check their smoke detectors twice a year. Officials say it could be the difference between life and death.

Assistant Chief Rudy Barrera – Alton Fire Department said, “It’s a must have. They really do save lives. In the middle of the night, you’re asleep…. Obviously, but as soon as it goes off, it’s going to give you that time to be able to get your family out. Definitely, do not go back in once you get everybody out.”

The Alton Fire Department is expecting a donation of smoke alarms that will go to residents in need.
