Edinburg City officials announcing their city as one of the finalists for the 2019 All-America City Award.
The award is given to cities building healthy communities through their involvement with residents and businesses. The Edinburg mayor says this recognition is important to the city after being ranked one of the top obese cities.
Mayor Richard Molina, “We’re excited you know, there’s hundreds of people that have applied, different cities. We’re down to 20, from those 20 only 10 will be selected. I’m glad and I’m very, very happy that we’re one of those finalists and I think it’s exciting times for Edinburg. It really puts our city on the map, not only here in the RGV but on a national level and I think this is very special.”
The city is working towards three projects including the David Chavana 10-k run, 10 drainage projects, and city festivals as part of the healthy communities award. A total of five Texas cities are also finalists, including the City of Mission.
