Valley boxer getting first chance at a world title

WESLACO, Texas – Professional Boxer Brandon Lee Figueroa will be heading to Los Angeles this week as he prepares for one of the biggest fights in his career.

The Weslaco native will be facing the current super bantamweight champion for a chance to become to become the next world champion himself. Local 23 News caught up with his father/coach as they prepare for the big fight.

Omar Figueroa Sr., “He earned this fight by knocking out world class opponents. At 22-years-old he’s getting a shot at a world title. I’m super proud of my son.

The undefeated boxer has a record of 18 victories, 13 of them being knock outs. The fight will take place on Saturday, April 20.
