EDINBURG, Texas — Various departments at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) are creating face shields, masks for health care workers.

The departments are creating the face shields by using 3-D printers.

The shields are then being delivered to local clinics.

“We all are joining and collaborating and we are listening to the needs of the hospitals, of the clinics all around the Valley, and we want to help,” said Noe Vargas, Assistance Professor Mechanical Engineering.

Hernandez adds they are working on creating the protective equipment every day, mentioning it takes them about nine hours to make a batch.
