The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley held a badge pinning ceremony for their new chief of police.
Adan Cruz was announced to be the new chief on Tuesday at the Edinburg campus.
“The police department is here to serve them, and we really want to have a good working relationship with our students, faculty and staff. It’s very important that they feel comfortable approaching us. That they feel comfortable communicating and interacting with our staff,” said Cruz.
According to a release, Cruz was named chief of police effective on Feb. 21.
Cruz has served as assistant chief of police since 2017. The release states he retired from the Texas Department of Public Safety with over 26 years of service.
Cruz will be taking the place of Raul Mungia, inaugural police chief, who retired last month.
