HARLINGEN, Texas – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley is beginning their fall 2019 commencement ceremonies.
More than 2,600 students will be walking the stage in front of their families and friends. The commencements will be divided into six ceremonies taking place Dec. 13 and 14. UTRGV is reaching a milestone as they are celebrating the 30,000 mark of students graduating since the university first opened back in 2015.
The prospective graduates come from all different backgrounds with many being first-generation students.
Carlos Escobeldo, Biomedical Science major, “I’m pretty excited, at the same time I’m really nervous. My older sister is also graduating, but she’s graduating in the other ceremony. Both of us are graduating, both of us are first-generation students so my parents are pretty proud right now.”
Today’s ceremonies took place at the Harlingen Convention Center. The commencement ceremonies will continue tomorrow, Dec. 14 in Edinburg at the Bert Ogden Arena.
