UTRGV campus in Harlingen closer to becoming reality

Local News

HARLINGEN, Texas – Recently, the Harlingen City Commission voted unanimously to finalize a donation deed transferring land located on Medical Drive near the Regional Academic Health Center to the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley.

The donation is part of a partnership with UTRGV and The Harlingen Consolidated Independent School District that will result in the development and construction of a brand new educational campus in Harlingen. The campus will allow high school students to undergo dual enrollment while UTRGV students take college classes and earn a four-year university degree in their home town.

The approval of the donation deed is part of the legal process necessary to get the project underway. Within the next few weeks, UTRGV and HCISD will finalize their own agreements on how the facility will operate.

UTRGV and HCISD will share the cost of the project.
