UPDATE: Body Found Identified, One Still Unnamed

Local News

The body of a man found floating in the Rio Grande River in early March has now been identified.

The family of Javier Salazar identified him Wednesday afternoon. Salazar was a Mexican national who was 17 years old.

He was mainly recognized because of his tattoos: the Cheshire Cat from Alice in Wonderland on his left shoulder and a rose with the names Consuelo and Augustin on his right shoulder.

Meanwhile, deputies continue asking for help in identifying a second body found in a separate incident.

The second man has a tattoo of hearts that reads “Luis loves Angie.” He was found at the river near Hidalgo in late march.

Deputies say this is the seventh body they’ve discovered in the river this year.

If you have information about this case, you are asked to call the Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division at 956-383-8114, or if you wish to remain anonymous, you may call the Hidalgo County Crime Stoppers hotline at 956-668-TIPS (8477).
