The race for the Mission mayoral seat may head towards a runoff election, according to unofficial final results from the Hidalgo County Elections Department.
Unofficial final results show Mission Mayor Norberto “Beto” Salinas received 49.97 % of the vote, Armando “Doc” O’Cana received 41.63% of the vote and Jaime Gutierrez received 8.41% of the vote.
Salinas says he came in two votes short of avoiding a runoff Saturday night.
However, on Monday, the city will have the numbers for the provisional votes to determine whether or not a runoff will be needed.
