All three McAllen ISD high schools will drop to class 5A in the next round of University Interscholastic League (UIL) realignment.

The UIL Tuesday morning revised the reclassification enrollment numbers it released last week, which showed all three McAllen high schools remaining in class 6A. But McAllen ISD said the UIL had incorrect enrollment numbers for Rowe, Memorial and McAllen High.

The UIL cutoff for class 6A is 2,220 students. In the corrected enrollment numbers for McAllen ISD, McAllen High has 2,201 students, Rowe High School has 2,165 and Memorial High School has 2,115. All three McAllen ISD schools will compete in Class 5A Division I.

Weslaco East will also drop down from 6A to 5A Division I, creating a very crowded classification in the RGV:

  • Brownsville Lopez
  • Brownsville Pace
  • Brownsville Porter
  • Brownsville Veterans Memorial
  • Donna
  • La Joya Palmview
  • McAllen High
  • McAllen Rowe
  • McAllen Memorial
  • Mission Veterans Memorial
  • Rio Grande City
  • Weslaco East

Last year, there were 10 schools in the RGV classified as 5A Division I.
