EDINBURG, Texas (KVEO) — Rio Grande Valley border agents found a stash house and stopped two human smuggling attempts.
Agents said they observed smuggling activity at a residence in Mission on Sunday. Later, the Hidalgo County Constables Office (HCCO) attempted to stop a vehicle, which then led to a pursuit.
The pursuit ended in a crash. The release states multiple subjects abandoned the vehicle and ran into the nearby brush. Officials were able to locate the individuals by using a helicopter.
According to the release, agents arrested three individuals from Mexico. HCCO arrested the driver.
Additionally, agents later observed a vehicle leave the same residence previously observed. Agents stopped the vehicle and arrested the driver for his involvement in the failed smuggling attempt.
On Sunday, an off-duty Border Patrol agent observed multiple subjects come out of the brush near Palmview. McAllen police were contacted by the agent. Then, agents and the Texas Department of Public Safety responded and located the suspect vehicle.
After a vehicle stop and questioning, officials determined the three passengers were from Mexico. The release states DPS arrested the driver, who had a controlled substance in his possession.
According to the release, DPS arrested the driver and confiscated the vehicle and drugs.
Border Patrol processed all subjects accordingly, said the release.
