It has been confirmed both Tru Fit Athletic Club locations in Mission are closed due to the recent spread of the mumps virus.

In an email to members Friday, Tru Fit said it closed the locations proactively because the confirmed and suspected cases had a connection to the athletic facilities.

Both gyms are closed and are scheduled to be disinfected.

Tru Fit is working with the city of Mission and the Hidalgo County Health Department, who is leading the investigation.

According to the, there are nine suspected and one confirmed case of mumps.

The city of Mission held an emergency meeting Thursday night regarding a business posing a threat to residents.

Mission leaders did not immediately release the name of the business where the virus originated from.

According to county workers investigating the case, those infected are all young college adults.

The mumps is a non-life threatening illness, but symptoms include fever, headaches, swelling of the glands in the jaw and neck area.

Anyone who appears to have these symptoms are urged to see a doctor right away.
