Trooper Sanchez removed from ICU, in stable condition.

Trooper Moises Sanchez has been moved out of Neuro Intensive Care Unit and into the DHR Rehabilitation Hospital, according to a statement released by his wife Yvonne Sanchez.

“He will undergo at least thee hours of rehab each day before returning to the Neuro ICU for a surgery in the coming weeks,” Yvonne said in a email. “Moises continues to show gradual improvement, and we are praying for additional progress and improvement of his condition.”

Yvonne stressed in her message, the Sanchez family is appreciative to everyone  for their compassion, encouragement and unwavering support for her husband’s recovery.

Trooper Sanchez was shot in April while attempting to apprehend a suspect in Hidalgo County.

According to the Department of Public Safety,  the shooting happened around 8:45 p.m., after the trooper approached a crash near 10th Street and Freddy Gonzalez where a driver fled the scene.

The trooper located the suspect near the 1500 block of South Maltese Street and was shot.
