Trial for Former County Jailer Continues

The trial for ex-Cameron County Jailer Marco Antonio Gonzalez continued this morning in the 404th District Court.

Day 2 involved testimony from several peace officers that were involved in the standoff that day. Investigators say Gonzalez shot and killed Ivan Reyes and held Monica Robles hostage during an 8 hour standoff with police.

Gonzalez is facing 11 counts of aggravated assault, 9 against peace officers. Several SWAT members described fearing for their lives while they were being shot at by Gonzalez from inside the home.

A Brownsville PD investigator said a total of 16 gun casings from Gonzalez’s assault rifle were discovered inside the home.

The trial will continue tomorrow. The woman who was taken hostage, Monica Robles herself is expected to take the stand.
