Rio Grande Valley residents working to rebuild their homes after the severe June flooding could be paying a lot more.
The President’s current trade policy applies tariffs to building materials such as lumbar, steel, and aluminum. Some say the situation could get worse as the administration has proposed more tariffs on $200 billion in Chinese goods, including materials that could go in your next kitchen or bathroom.
“There are tariffs being put on just about every component that goes into a house.” Says Jerry Howard, member of the Association of Home Builders.
It may also impact other construction materials like doors and windows. If you plan on buying a new home anytime soon, Howard adds the average American is going to pay at least $9,000 more dollars for their house than they would have had to pay last year.
