The House voted to fund the government for less than a month and now the government awaits the Senate’s decision.
The last government shutdown was back in 2013.
Every year, the U.S. government needs to pass a spending bill for the fiscal year to fund all the government programs.
“What we’ve seen are continuing resolutions that just fund the government at current levels some way, for a specified amount of time,” said UTRGV Political Science Professor Charles Olney.
Not all government programs would stop with a shutdown.
The U.S. Postal Service, Social Security and Medicare, just to name a few, will remain business as usual.
