Texas Workforce Commission Awards Grants to Valley School Districts

Local News

The Texas Workforce Commission is distributing 14 grants across the state. Seven of which the Rio Grande Valley is receiving.

Donna Independent School District is being granted over $200,000 to purchase new equipment for their welding program. 550 welding certificates and licenses are expected to be awarded this school year.

Julian Alvarez, TWC Commissioner of Labor, “Donna has always been very proactive and their approach to educating young adults. They’re seeing the need in welders not only in the local communities, but in areas of growth like the Port of Brownsville. This grant is perfect for them. It facilitates the needs of our local students here in our workforce.”

PSJA ISD also received a check for over $280,000 for their welding and emergency medical services departments.
