The Welding Innovative Academy from PSJA ISD will get new equipment in the upcoming months.
This is a grant the district received from the Texas Education Agency. More than $300,000 will be given to the district to purchase the necessary equipment to expand its current welding program.
One district official said students will not only be able to get good jobs once they go through the welding program, but possibly become entrepreneurs.
Narciso Garcia – PSJA ISD Deputy Superintendent said, “They might open up their own business. Not just go to the oil rigs or offshore or welding jobs here in the valley, but open up their own businesses. So imagine the economic impact it’s going to create. So the federal and state government are giving us the opportunity to create an economic potential here in our Rio Grande Valley.”
The district expects to have the new equipment at their College Career and Technology Academy by the beginning of the summer.
