HARLINGEN, Texas (KGBT) — The Texas Department of State Health Services confirmed in a tweet on Friday afternoon that the first child of the 2019-2020 flu season in Texas has died.
According to a report released Friday by the Texas DSHS, the child was a 5-year-old in the Rio Grande Health Region and tested positive for Influenza A (H1N1) in the past week. The report stated that the child was not vaccinated for the current flu season.
As we’ve previously reported, there have been an increase in reports of flu-like symptoms in the Rio Grande Valley.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, a yearly vaccine is recommended for everyone to prevent getting the flu.
