Person of interest sought following deadly rollover crash near Donna

UPDATE: Texas DPS has announced that they are looking for a person of interest in regards to the fatal crash. 

Authorities are looking for Cristante-Gonzalez Mateo, 37, of Donna.

Texas Department of Public Safety Troopers are investigating following a one-vehicle rollover crash near Donna on Thursday evening.

According to DPS, the crash occurred on Mile 11 1/2, east of FM 493.

A preliminary investigation showed that a 2004 tan Grand Marquis, occupied by three people, was traveling westbound on Mile 11 1/2.

That’s when, according to authorities, the driver of the vehicle lost control, causing the vehicle to roll.

A passenger, Fernando Arellano, 37, of Mexico, was inside the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the report. 

A second passenger was taken to McAllen Medical Center.

Authorities said the driver of the vehicle fled the scene.

DPS is asking the public if you know the whereabouts of the male driver, who has major head injuries, to contact Weslaco DPS office at (956) 565-7600.
