Hundreds of Texas attorneys are lining up to offer legal services to immigrant families.
It is in response to the zero-tolerance initiative. Texas State Bar associations have been hosting training. They’re teaching attorneys how to help families through the first part of the asylum request process. The attorneys united in response to the huge need.
Adam Schramek, Austin Bar Association, “There is no way that an immigrant family can pursue asylum on their own without help from a lawyer.”
Kate Lincoln-Goldfinch, Immigration Attorney, “I can’t imagine if this were happening to me. I would hope that if I were in this situation that someone else would fight for me.”
Efforts to reunify families and help them seek asylum in the U.S. could take months. The attorneys will not charge for their services.
