It’s an army of foreign invaders that is growing in the Rio Grande Valley. It is a species of super tiny insects called “Crazy Ants.”
They’re causing big problems in other parts of the U.S. now their numbers are starting to rise in some areas of the valley. The ants first surfaced in Texas about 15 years ago.
Now they can be found in mostly humid areas of the country, like the RGV, where conditions ideal for the ants.
A meeting and presentation is scheduled next week at Estero Llano Grande State Park in Weslaco. It will be on Wednesday, March 22nd at 7:00 p.m. Something especially important since most pesticides are ineffective in killing the insects.
