Local News

MCALLEN, Texas – More than 150 McAllen ISD students received an early start to their holiday shopping with one very special helper.

The students were greeted by the one and only Santa Claus as he arrived in a CBP aircraft. Target stores and the city of McAllen are joining the efforts of heroes and helpers to give back to the kids in their community. McAllen Police helping the students find the perfect Christmas gifts for themselves and their loved ones.

Heroes and Helpers is a way for the kids to connect with local law enforcement.

Louie Rodriguez, Target – Assets Protection Business Partner, “The biggest thing is to really connect our kids with our public safety partners. Law enforcement is not intended to be something that is feared but embraced. They do a lot for us and when the kids get a shot to shop with them for Christmas presents, it just bridges that gap and creates great dialogue where they can just connect with an officer.”

Target donated $12,000 for the kids to spend it on their Christmas wish list and making their holiday wishes come true.
