We’re continuing our series of asking people in the community their thoughts on propositions on each of the ballots.
The Republican and Democrat ballots each have questions regarding guns. The Democratic ballot question asks “Should everyone in Texas have the right to live a life free from violence – gun violence, racial hatred, terrorism, domestic violence, bullying, harassment or sexual assault – so Texans can grow in a safe environment?”
On the Republican ballot “Texas should reject restrictions on the right to keep and bear arms.” Voters tell CBS 4 it’s a touchy topic.
“We need more gun control in this country, people are dying,” said one voter.
Another said they shouldn’t add anymore regulations to guns.
“Misunderstanding on the purpose of firearms and the use of firearms and the potential,” said Desi Najera Jr.
He owns a firearm safety and tactical training company and tells us there needs to be more education all around.
“Polarization on I’m on this side you’re on that side and so we can’t really cross lines and listen to one another because I have to hold my position on this side, I think that damages a lot of people to have conversations” he said.
The purpose of propositions is to vote yes or no on issues you want rejected or approved. Once voters cast their vote leaders will use what the people want to adjust legislation. Whether you believe in stricter gun laws or not, you raise your voice by voting.
