The mayor of Sullivan City has been arrested.
According to public records, Leonel Garcia was booked Tuesday, Feb. 25.
Garcia is charged with assault causing bodily injury to a family member.
Sullivan City Police Chief Richard Ozuna said a disturbance was reported on Feb. 16 in the early morning.
Authorities added that police were not called to the residence. Garcia and his partner Evelyn Vela filed reports against each other two hours later.
Sullivan City police requested help from the Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office for transparency, both parties were arrested.
Garcia and Vela are being processed at the Hidalgo County Jail.
Records show Garcia’s bond was set at $1,000.
