Elementary students met their favorite authors throughout the Rio Grande Valley.
The Texas Book Festival hopes to inspire children to read and write with a special meeting.
Students got the opportunity to read along with award winning authors.
Afterwards, they ask them questions about themselves, or what inspired them to write.
The program has been around since 2001 as a literacy initiative.
Colombian Author Juana Medina says, “I think it is important to come and visit potential new authors and to tell them. It’s true, you can write your own stories. You can share your experiences… Keep on reading. Keep on reading and writing and sharing their stories however they can.”
The Texas Book Festival plans to give out 3,000 books. They say the programs like these show increased book readership at local libraries.
