Structure fire kills two children in Brownsville

A 3-year-old and a 7-year-old were inside the home at the time, but their parents were not, according to Assistant Fire Chief Cesar Pedraza.

Two young boys caught in a structure fire in Brownsville died Friday night, according to Detective JJ Treviño of the Brownsville Police Department. 

The fire erupted from a mobile home located on the 9000 block of Pagosa Street at about 6 p.m. 

A 3-year-old boy and a 7-year-old boy were inside the home at the time, but their parents were not, according to Pedraza. Pedraza said their mother was nearby, but not within the home. 

The children were transported to the hospital where they subsequently succumbed to their injuries, according to Pedraza. The boys suffered from smoke inhalation and severe burns. 

Authorities are currently investigating the cause of the fire.

The investigation remains ongoing.
