The State Farm Arena suffered major damage Tuesday night and early Wednesday morning, when thunderstorms swept through Hidalgo.
High winds damaged the arena roof and caused a wall to collapse.
City officials said they believed two tornadoes hit the area. While the National Weather Service issued a tornado warning Tuesday night, meteorologists haven’t confirmed that any tornadoes actually struck Hidalgo County.
Students from the Valley View school district were scheduled to hold a graduation ceremony at the arena today.
