Texas state trooper seized 1,954 pounds of marijuana after traffic stop

HIDALGO COUNTY, Texas (KGBT) – The Texas Department of Public Safety seized 1,954 pounds of marijuana Saturday in Hidalgo County.

At about 12:45 p.m. a state trooper stopped a tractor-trailer on U.S. 281 near Farm-to-Market Road 2812, according to a news release from the Department of Public Safety.

The trooper found 80 bundles of marijuana hidden in the tractor-trailer, according to the news release. The bundles weighed 1,954 pounds.

The driver, 36-year-old Juan Carlos Sandoval-Martinez of Houston, is charged with possession of marijuana, a second-degree felony.

Justice of the Peace Bobby Contreras set bond at $150,000.

Sandoval remains at the Hidalgo County jail and couldn’t be reached for comment.
