Harlingen, Texas (KVEO)—Starr County Judge Eloy Vera announced in a statement that all the issues discussed with Texas Governor Greg Abbott on Tuesday have been addressed.
Governor Abbott visited the Rio Grande Valley on Tuesday and gave an update on how the state looks to respond to the destruction left by Hurricane Hanna.
Abbott also touched on how state and local leaders look to address the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, which is greatly affecting the RGV.
According to officials with Starr County, Judge Vera asked Abbott for medical equipment, to relieve the capacity for Starr County Memorial and Rio Grande Valley hospitals and for Starr County Memorial Hospital patients to be accepted to transfer to Audie Murphy Memorial VA hospital in San Antonio.
Officials say the McAllen Convention Center will be outfitted as a hospital with 250 beds.
“I would like to thank Chief of the Texas Division of Emergency Management Nim Kidd for establishing a clear line of communication with me. He has pledged to meet our needs. Thank you to our first responders and the medical and the medical staff who continue to be heroes throughout this pandemic. We are in this together” said the statement.
