Starr County separate shootings, one in custody another on the run

RIO GRANDE CITY, Texas – A tragic weekend in Starr County after two shootings were reported. Ismael Mares is in custody after authorities say he shot a 26-year old woman in the head. It happened around 10:30 p.m. on Saturday in the El Chaparral subdivision near Rio Grande City. Mares was arrested at his residence. The victim’s identity has not been released.

Sheriff’s deputies also continue searching for a man responsible for shooting his cousin. According to authorities 31-year-old Gonzalo Elizondo identified Ivan Zamora as the person who shot him in his arm and hip. The incident occurring at 3:00 a.m. on Sunday at a fast food restaurant near Rio Grande City.

Anyone with information on Zamora’s whereabouts is urged to call the Starr County Sheriff’s Office at (956) 487-5571.
