SOUTH PADRE ISLAND, Texas – A local wildlife center receives a major grant for improving exhibits and education.
The South Padre Island Birding Nature Center and Alligator Sanctuary is awarded $20,000 by the Tijerina Foundation. According to the center the grant will be used to purchase new equipment such as cameras, binoculars and equipment related to educational material about local wildlife.
Javier Gonzalez, Texas Naturalist, “We’re all very excited about this opportunity to expand our education through this grant. I think we’re going to see great improvements to our education possibilities, and we hope to attract more and more school field trips to our site.”
The site sees 65,000 visitors annually from all over the United States. Some of their most popular attractions include the various species of birds and the recently added alligator sanctuary.
