South Texas College receives funding for First Responders

PHARR, Texas – A new wave of first responders is preparing to serve our community.

They are aiming to tackle the high demand for first responders in the Rio Grande Valley. AT&T granting over $100,000 to 80 students at South Texas College. Officials say the grant will cover classes and certification for low-income students.

“We’re lacking first responders and this will provide avenues for those who always had a wish to become first responders. That will provide that availability and also more people out there as first responders that the community needs.”

Students will be certified within a month.
