South Texas College and the University of Texas-Rio Grande Valley have joined together to provide students with a smooth transition between the institutions.
An Articulation Agreement signing will take place at 9 a.m. on Dec. 12 at STC’s Rainbow Room located at the Pecan Campus. In total, at least 21 agreements will be signed at the event from all divisions at STC.
“These agreements are down to course level so if a student takes a math course here, it will determine exactly how it will transfer to UTRGV,” said Dr. Kelli Davis, University Relations Officer at South Texas College. “Students who are in the psychology program for instance know exactly where their courses will fit in to their four year degree at UTRGV.”
Math and Science will have five agreements signed with UTRGV, this encompasses Engineering, Computer Science, Biology, and Chemistry. Liberal Arts and Social Sciences will have 14 agreements signed which covers everything from Education, Art, Music, Spanish, Psychology, and Philosophy.
“This is more like our TAMUK engineering agreement because this is at the course level. Baylor was more of an overarching agreement. This one actually has courses that are specifically listed in each agreement, and there is a two+two roadmap,” Davis said. “A student can take that and it’s laid out semester by semester, the courses they need to take in order to finish in four years at both institutions.”
