SOUTH PADRE ISLAND, Texas — Fireworks are coming back to the island.

The City of South Padre Island, along with Clayton’s Beach Bar, is hosting fireworks shows every Friday and Saturday night throughout the summer on the island.

The shows begin Friday, May 22.

According to a release from the city, the fireworks shows coinciding with restaurants, bars, and other businesses opening up with limited capacity is a promising restart for South Padre Island.

Additionally, an extra Sunday fireworks show will be held on Memorial Day weekend over Laguna Madre Bay.

“There’s nothing like fireworks to deliver that sense of celebration for visitors,” said Ed Caum, executive director for South Padre Island convention and visitors bureau. “As more of our Island businesses open, we are the safe, beautiful destination for Texas families.”
