Soldier’s Homecoming, April Fool’s Prank On Mom Caught On Camera

Local News

A local soldier is heading back to Virginia but had a very special April fool’s day prank for his mom.

Army soldier John Paul Marrero surprised his mother, Mariela, at work.

PlainsCaptial bank uploaded the video and was shared to the KVEO News team.

John Paul told his mom to expect him on April 2nd but with the help of friends and PlainsCapital bank staff “Operation: Surprise Mom” was a “GO.”

Standing 6’1” tall John Paul crammed under Mariela’s desk while she was out of the office.

“Oh your mom knew you were coming in today…She just had a feeling and he [John Paul] was like, ‘what does she know?’” Another coworker said “no she just had a feeling about it” said Sofia Herrera remembering how the plan unfolded.

Herrera made a frantic call to Mariela saying there was an irate customer waiting for her in her office and needed to come in immediately.

Within minutes Mariela rushed in the door and into her office.

The “irate customer” was one of John Paul’s friends.

When Mariela pulled the chair from her desk she saw her Army Soldier son smiling.

A scream rang out across the bank… then tears of joy… a long awaited hug and a sigh of relief.

Mariela hadn’t seen her son since Summer of 2015.

The only thing i can describe it too is like Christmas its that feeling of joy and gratitude they’re there with you” said Mariela describing the moment she held her son.

Mariela shared a message to parents with loved ones in the armed forces, “be strong keep them in your prayers because only they know what they’re going through all we can ask is god to take care of them and keep them safe while they’re away from us.”

Mariela says she’s already anticipating the next time he comes home.
