Two McAllen high school sisters have found an organization to give back to those fighting for our country.
Treats for Troops is a project started by McAllen high school junior, Taylor Helmcamp, with the help of her little sister, Carter.
The idea only came up six weeks ago, but the sisters are working hard to have the organization grow beyond their backyard.
Treats for Troops is already gaining local interest. The American Legion Auxiliary Unit in McAllen has agreed to support the organization and help pay for shipment. A local orthodontist has also donated a box of toothbrushes and toothpaste.
Care packages will consist of gallon-sized bags that can be filled with items such as note pads, candy, and deodorant. The cost of each care package is $5.
The sisters hope to send out their first shipment of 20 boxes (80 care packages) on May 31st, and their second shipment of 100 boxes (400 care packages) on October 31st.
They are asking for the public’s help to donate or volunteer to help establish a successful organization.
Anyone interested in donating can drop items off at American Legion in McAllen, or at any of the three Fiesta Cleaners locations in McAllen and Sharyland.
