Sister injured in Harlingen hit and run released from the hospital

HARLINGEN, Texas – A female hit and run victim in Harlingen has been released from the hospital.

20-year-old Leslie Cassie Huerta has been released from the hospital, according to Harlingen police spokesperson Commander John Parrish.

The hit and run claimed the life of Huerta’s five year old sister, Angelina Huerta.

Huerta’s release comes the following day the alleged driver, 42-year-old Jose Ricardo Trujillo was charged with Accident Involving Death (2nd Degree Felony) and Accident Involving Serious Bodily Injury (3rd Degree Felony).

Primera Police tracked down the vehicle and Trujillo, locating him at his Primera residence after the hit and run.

Witnesses tell Local 23 News, Huerta and her five year old sister Angelina Huerta were selling newspaper before they were hit at the intersection of Stuart Place Road and Interstate 2 Westbound Frontage Road.

The Harlingen Police Department Highway Enforcement Unit and Major Crimes Unit are still investigating this crash.
