Shooting in Escobares leaves man in critical condition

Escobares, Texas (KVEO)– One man is in critical condition after being shot in front of the Escobares City Hall.

According to officials, Starr County Deputies and officers with the Escobares Police Department responded to a shooting.

The victim, identified as Gerardo Ramirez, was found lying on the ground bleeding from the abdomen and arm. Ramirez was alert and was able to give a statement to the deputies.

Ramirez said he was approached by a man by the name of Daniel Valdez. The two men began to argue and according to Ramirez’s testimony, Valdez pulled out a gun and shot Ramirez.

Officials say Valdez fled East on US 83 on a grey Chevrolet four door pickup.

Ramirez was transported to a medical facility in McAllen where he remains in critical condition.

Investigators arrested Daniel Valdez, 57, from Roma.

He has been taken into custody and charged with attempted murder.
