The latest technology is helping authorities identify offenders much faster.
Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office is implementing the Inmate Recognition Identification System or I.R.I.S. It is the latest in Biometric Identification Technology.
It snaps a photo of the human iris. Searches for active warrants on suspects and inmates, locally and nationally. It also positively identifies the individual within seconds.
Hidalgo County Sheriff J.E. “Eddie” Guerra said, “The iris biometric system provides a quicker and a more accurate identification of offenders of both locally and nationally.”
The system also cuts down on booking times.
