Sheriff: Missionary turns to murder after daughter assaulted

A former missionary wanted for murder faced a judge after fleeing to Central America.

Everett James Morris appeared for an arraignment at the Hidalgo County Jail on Tuesday morning.

The Pharr man is accused of killing his roommate as an act of revenge.

Hidalgo County Sheriff Lupe Trevio said murder victim, Jorge Olivarez may have assaulted the Morris TM daughter.

Deputies believe Morris beat Olivarez in the head and then dumped his body at a farm next the Santa Ana National Wildlife Refuge.

“He is not very descriptive,nor does he give enough details to indicate how he did it he just says he was responsible for the murder and he did it, Sheriff Trevio said.

Morris, who once worked as a missionary to Mexico, fled to the Central American nation of Belize where he surrendered to authorities.

The Pharr man was extradited back to the United States and then the Rio Grande Valley.

Morris’ daughter is currently in Belize.

Investigators are working to contact with her and bring her back to the Valley for questioning.

Morris remains in the Hidalgo County Jail under a $1 million dollar bond.
