The director of a local shelter says he’s noticed an uptick of volunteers coming in to help with Thanksgiving celebrations, but says their presence is needed year-round.

“There are hungry people in April and May and in June, as well and homeless people in July and those folks need our attention and our need as well,” said Loaves & Fishes Executive Director Bill Reagan.

Reagan says year-round, Loaves & Fishes has about 20 volunteers per day at the facility. Reagan adds that volunteering could have a positive impact in your life.

“Most importantly is what it does for your personal character– to touch and see people who aren’t as fortunate as you are,” said Reagan.
