A woman broke her silence about the sexual abuse she endured at the hands of a local pastor a year ago.

In an exclusive interview with the victim, who out of respect CBS 4 is hiding her identity, she learned that 53-year-old, Melquisedec Chan, was no stranger to the victim or her family. She said they were receiving medical assistance from him for years before the abuse occurred.

“Not just mine, but our family doctor,” said the victim. “He took care of my husband before he passed away.”

She said she knew the suspect since she was a teenager and that he served as their family doctor.

According to police reports, he served as a pastor at a local church.

However, the victim said things took a turn last year.

“It was March the 5th and from there on, it happened multiple times.”

At the beginning, she said she couldn’t recognize exactly what was happening since he had been her doctor for several years.

“He was using a different technique, method of what he used before,” recalled the victim. “But he said it was part of the follow-up of what we were doing and I trusted him.”

According to the police report, Chan sexually assaulted her after injecting her with an unknown substance.

The victim said it happened at her own home in Edinburg.

She said his actions stunned her and continued until she went to police.

Now, she’s sharing her story to give a voice to other victims.

“I have a family and I don’t want them to think that it’s okay to stay quiet when something like that happens,” said the victim.

Chan is charged with aggravated sexual assault and practicing medicine without a license.

A pre-trial hearing has been scheduled for April 4.
